Artwork Description

Created for the Starlet opening, within-outwith explores a relationship with stars, when thinking about stars plenty of themes come to mind like whimsy, wishes, light, celestial power but also a distance and a coldness too. I wanted to bring the stars closer, I pondered on the sentiment that stardust is in our bones, the pattern of what is in our beautiful universe is reverent in our own bodies, beings. I landed on the reflection of looking within to look outwith and that the stars featured in the painting would be viewed in a reflection of a pond, accompanied by a sweet mumma duck providing warmth and closeness to her ducklings, a symbol of my own mothering journey really. She might be telling bedtime stories, between the stars above and below.

Tell us about yourself as an artist

I’m an artist of the eclectic kind, I enjoy using multiple styles and mediums. My favourite is ink drawing though. 

I’ve been a creative person forever and champion the power art has for everyone individually and collectively, so much so I built my career to be a registered Arts Therapist.

What are your creative dreams or goals?

I’d like to contribute to the Arts Therapy profession in Australia and see my business grow to support my family and future comfortably. Also master more practical Arts skills and dedication to my art making.

What does “becoming a star” mean to you?

In line with my artwork, becoming a star for me means actively knowing self over and over again, reflecting within and moving through the world authentically and with a brightness that belongs to me and in turn tells me I belong to the world.
